A new species of Mammillaria, named Mammillaria breviplumosa, is described from Mexico (Durango, Municipality of Mapimí). It is morphologically very similar to M. sanchez-mejoradae.

Mammillaria breviplumosa is a spherical cactus species with clustering stems completely covered in white downy spines. It grows up to 12 cm (5 in) tall and 40 cm (16 in) broad, with individual stems around 7 cm (3 in) in diameter. The flowers are white or greenish-yellow, blooming in late summer.Conservation Status
