Agave filifera subs. schidigera
Product Details

A striking architectural succulent featuring symmetrical dark green leaves adorned with decorative white markings and curly peeling filaments.

Description Agave filifera subs. schidigera (often called the Thread-leaf Agave) is a highly ornamental species known for its perfect globular rosette. The rigid, sword-shaped leaves are dark green and decorated with beautiful white bud-imprints on the surface.

Its most defining feature is the coarse, curly white fibers (filaments) that peel away from the leaf margins, giving the plant a unique textured appearance. This solitary grower stays compact, making it a stunning focal point for container gardens.

Origin & Type This species is native to the rocky high-altitude regions of Mexico. Our specimens are 100% nursery-grown and ethically propagated, ensuring healthy, acclimatized plants without damaging wild populations.

Care Guide

  • Light: Thrives in full sunlight to bright partial shade. Abundant light helps maintain a tight, compact rosette form.
  • Water: Very drought tolerant. Water thoroughly only when the soil is completely bone dry. Avoid overhead watering to prevent rot in the crown.
  • Soil: Requires a very porous, gritty mix. Use a cactus soil blend with added pumice, perlite, or gravel to ensure rapid drainage.
  • Temperature: Excellent for the Indian climate (20°C–35°C). It tolerates heat well but should be sheltered from heavy monsoon rains.
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate grower that maintains its manageable size for many years.

Additional Details

  • Plant Size: Small to medium rosette (eventually reaches 1-2 ft wide); ships in a standard nursery pot.
  • Indoor/Outdoor: Best for sunny balconies, rock gardens, or very bright windowsills.
  • Beginner friendliness: Very low maintenance and easy for beginners.
  • Toxicity: Sharp terminal spines require care; sap may be mildly irritating to skin.
