Lophophora is a small, slow-growing cactus genus native to the limestone regions of northern and central Mexico and parts of the southwestern United States. Its rounded, spineless or nearly spineless body is divided into subtle ribs and often sits close to the soil, giving it a distinctive button-like appearance. Mature plants may produce delicate pink or white flowers followed by small fruits. Known for its unusual form, cultural history and slow growth, Lophophora is particularly valued by specialist cactus collectors.
