1. Origin & History of Name: The genus name Agave comes from the Greek agauos, meaning "noble" or "illustrious." The species name lophantha stems from lophos (crest) and anthos (flower). The cultivar name 'Splendida' (Latin for "bright" or "shining") was assigned to highlight this specific selection’s superior color saturation and gloss compared to the standard species, which is also commonly referred to by the synonym Agave univittata (meaning "one-striped").
2. Morphology: This succulent forms a compact rosette of stiff, lance-shaped leaves. Its epidermis is a deep forest green, characterized by distinct variegation: a brilliant lime-green to creamy-yellow "mid-stripe" running down the center of each leaf.
