Really happy with the plants I received. They came in very good condition and were packed nicely. Also got two different cactus as a surprise gift, which was really nice. Thanks for the care taken in delivering them safely, would love to buy more plants in the future.

Product Details
Gilded Majesty: Agave victoriae-reginae 'Ring of Gold'
A premium architectural masterpiece featuring a rare marginal variegation that frames the iconic geometric silhouette in brilliant gold.
- Origin & History of Name: The species was named by botanist Thomas Moore in 1875 to honor Queen Victoria of England. The genus Agave stems from the Greek agauos, meaning "illustrious" or "noble." The cultivar name 'Ring of Gold' (often synonymous with 'Aureomarginata') refers to the distinct yellow bands that encircle the leaf margins.
- Morphology: This slow-growing, globose succulent is defined by its rigid, deep-green epidermis and characteristic white commissural lines (bud imprints). Unlike the standard species, this cultivar exhibits stable marginal variegation, where the leaf edges lack chlorophyll, resulting in a vibrant gold border. The leaves are toothless but terminate in a sharp, dark apical spine.
- Habitat & Origin: While the base species is native to the Chihuahuan Desert in Coahuila, Mexico, 'Ring of Gold' is a specialized cultivar selected in cultivation for its genetic mutation. To ensure sustainability and conservation of wild populations, these specimens are produced via tissue culture or offsets (pups) rather than wild harvesting.
- Cultivation Profile:
- Substrate: Use a strictly mineral-based mix (70% grit/pumice/perlite, 30% organic matter) to ensure rapid drainage during the Indian monsoon.
- Light: Thrives in bright indirect light or morning sun. In the Indian plains, provide 50% shade cloth protection during peak summer (April–June) to prevent leaf scorching of the variegated margins.
- Water/Dormancy: Deep soak only when the medium is completely dry. Reduce watering significantly during the winter dormancy (December–January) to prevent core rot in cooler temperatures.
- Scientific/Historical Anecdote: Agave victoriae-reginae is renowned for its "monocarpic" nature, meaning it blooms only once after 20 to 30 years of growth. The massive flower spike can reach up to 4 meters in height, after which the mother plant redirects all energy to seed production and expires, making every mature specimen a decades-long investment in botanical history.
