Aloe rahuii
Aloe Rauhii (Snowflake Aloe) – Rare, Drought-Resistant Madagascar Endemic
Discover Aloe rauhii, a striking and rare succulent endemic to Madagascar, renowned for its dense rosettes of lanceolate leaves adorned with distinctive white oval spots, resembling snowflakes. Growing up to 6 inches tall, it forms dense clumps with branching stems, making it a captivating addition to any succulent collection.
Named after German botanist Professor Werner Rauh, a renowned specialist in succulents and rainforest plants, Aloe rauhii honors his contributions to botanical science. Its grey-green leaves, 7-10 cm long with tiny white marginal teeth, turn a dreamy purplish-orange in full sun. The elegant inflorescences feature light pink-scarlet flowers on cylindrical racemes, adding vibrant color during blooming season.
Native to sandstone cliffs at about 600 meters elevation, Aloe rauhii is highly drought-resistant and adaptable. However, Madagascar’s unique flora faces threats of habitat loss, putting this endemic species on the brink of extinction.
Perfect for xeriscaping or container gardens, Aloe rauhii combines aesthetic beauty with resilience. Its snowflake-like pattern and compact form make it a truly special, low-maintenance addition that captures Madagascar’s wild beauty.
