Euphorbia grandicornis
Product Details

Euphorbia grandicornis is a striking succulent shrub characterized by its tall, columnar growth habit and distinctive, horned or “antler-like” appearance. It typically reaches heights of 3 to 6 feet (approximately 1 to 2 meters), with thick, fleshy stems covered in prominent, ribbed ridges. These ridges are accentuated by large, triangular, or horn-shaped spines that project outward from the ridges, giving the plant a rugged, armor-like texture. The surface of the stems is generally gray-green to bluish-green, occasionally with a waxy or matte finish that helps reduce water loss in arid environments.

The plant produces small, whitish or yellowish unisexual flowers in terminal clusters that appear sporadically in spring and summer, attracting pollinators. The involucral bracts are often small and inconspicuous, with the primary visual interest stemming from the imposing, horn-like spines and ribbed stems.

Euphorbia grandicornis is endemic to southern Africa, particularly in Namibia and South Africa, thriving in well-draining, gravelly or sandy soils typical of semi-desert and veld environments. It prefers full sun to partial shade and is highly drought-tolerant once established. Due to its latex sap, which can be irritating and toxic, handling should include care to avoid skin contact, and any cuts should be treated promptly.

This species is highly valued among succulent enthusiasts and collectors for its architectural form, dramatic spination, and unique texture, making it an impressive statement plant in desert landscapes, container gardens, or succulent arrangements.
