1. Origin & History of Name: The genus was named in honor of Hildegard Winter (1893–1975), sister of the famous botanist Friedrich Ritter. The cultivar name 'Humkes Klein Gelbe' is German, where "Klein" means small and "Gelbe" means yellow, identifying it as a specific selection by the German hybridizer Humke. While modern taxonomy often merges this genus into Cleistocactus, the name Hildewintera remains the horticultural standard for these trailing showpieces.
2. Morphology: This cactus features elongated, pendulous stems covered in a dense coating of soft, golden-yellow bristly spines arising from closely set areoles. Unlike upright species, its epidermis is designed for a lithophytic or epiphytic habit. The flowers are actinomorphic (radially symmetrical) and multi-layered, appearing laterally along the stems in a striking shade of sulfur yellow.
