The specific epithet marksiana honors Hermann Marks, a German cactus enthusiast who first collected the plant in Mexico during the 1940s. The "f. variegata" designation indicates a stable form (forma) exhibiting a genetic mutation that causes a lack of chlorophyll in sections of the tissue.
2. Morphology: This cactus features a globose (spherical) body that becomes slightly depressed at the apex. Its unique aesthetic stems from variegation, where the epidermis displays a striking contrast between deep forest green and vibrant yellow. The plant is covered in small, pyramidal tubercules rather than distinct costae (ribs).
