1. Origin & History of Name: The genus name Mammillaria is derived from the Latin mammilla, meaning "nipple" or "teat," referring to the plant’s characteristic tubercles. The subspecies name gracilis translates to "slender." The cultivar name 'Arizona Snowcap' was selected to evoke the image of a snow-dusted mountain peak, contrasting with its arid-dwelling nature.
2. Morphology: This cultivar is a clustering globose cactus that offsets freely. Its primary distinction is the epidermis, which is almost entirely obscured by thick, short, and blunt white radial spines. Unlike the parent species, these spines are densely packed and woolly, emerging from areoles on small, rounded tubercles. It produces small, cream-to-yellow actinomorphic flowers in late winter.
3. Habitat & Origin: This is a cultivar and does not occur in the wild; it was selectively bred from Mammillaria vetula (native to central Mexico). Our specimens are propagated through offsets (cloning), ensuring a sustainable supply that protects wild Mexican populations from poaching.

   • Substrate: Use a strictly mineral-based mix (50% grit/pumice, 25% coarse sand, 25% organic matter). Avoid standard garden soil which retains too much moisture in Indian humidity.
   • Light: Requires bright, filtered sunlight. In the Indian subcontinent, provide 4–6 hours of morning sun; use green shade netting (50%) during intense May–June heatwaves to prevent scorching.
   • Water/Dormancy: Follow a "soak and dry" method. Water thoroughly, then wait for the medium to dry completely. During the monsoon, keep the plant under a rain shelter to prevent root rot. Reduce watering significantly during the winter dormancy period.
