Mangave Painted Desert
Describing Mangave Painted Desert is like capturing the colors of a desert sunset. Created by plant breeder Hans Hansen, it’s a fascinating hybrid of Agave macroacantha and Agave nizandensis, with purple spotting from a Manfreda. Its long, narrow, rubbery leaves form a 1-foot tall by 2-foot wide clump, featuring olive green foliage heavily spotted with purple, atop a muted gold central band. The olive green leaves have a distinct, lighter central band covered in red dots when exposed to UV light, giving a fascinating, shifting color blend. Overall, the leaves carry a dusty burgundy wash, and the upright habit makes it perfect for underplanting in containers or focal points in xeriscapes.
Thriving in full sun with minimal water, Mangave Painted Desert adds a vibrant, desert-inspired splash of color and artistry. Its resilient, architectural beauty and upright growth make it a compelling, easy-care centerpiece—beautiful, bold, and built to weather harsh conditions.
